History
Northumberland
has long been known for the quality of culinary
raw materials for wild fish and game and for
high
quality grass reared livestock. The Bywell Smokery takes its name from where the the River Tyne flows
under Bywell Bridge.
The Romans built a weir here and fishing has
since been an important way of life to many generations.
Today the river continues to be important for
its wild fish which are caught by rod and line
by anglers. The river is again the best salmon river in England.
